what to call a tropical cyclone



We are in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from the beginning of June through the end of November. As storms develop throughout this season, you may hear a variety of different terms used to describe what occurs, but what do they all mean?

The term "tropical cyclone" refers to a quickly rotating storm that forms over the ocean near the equator. Depending on the speed of accompanying winds and the location of the storm, these tropical cyclones can receive a few other names.
